Tweaked Apps for iPhone: 21 Social and Media Tweaks That Are Worth It

A tweak is not a different app. It is the app you already use — same feed, same login, same interface — recompiled with the parts its makers left out: a download button, a switch for the ads, a setting for who can see you are online. Everything below runs on a stock iPhone with no jailbreak and no computer, and none of them are on the App Store, because every one of them does something Apple’s review would not pass.
Twenty-one of them, grouped by the app they modify.
Instagram has more tweaks than anything else in the catalogue, and they are not interchangeable — each one solves a different half of the same complaint. If you only care about this app, the Instagram tweaks compared side by side goes deeper on four of them.
The most-installed tweak on this list by a wide margin. Theta downloads anything you can see — posts, reels, stories, profile pictures at full size — lets you watch stories without appearing in the viewer list, and strips ads and suggested posts out of the feed.
Sparkle leans on the privacy side: ghost mode for stories and typing indicators, controls over what the feed is allowed to show you, and saving built in.
Rocket is the long-running one, and the one to reach for if you want the familiar layout with the limits removed rather than a reworked app.
IGFormat solves exactly one problem, which is why people who need it swear by it: it uploads at the aspect ratio you shot, instead of Instagram’s crop.
RyukGram is the maximalist option — the longest feature list of the group, with the trade-off that a bigger tweak breaks more often after an Instagram update. We wrote it up on its own here.
TikTok
The default answer for TikTok. Watermark-free downloads, region-locked content unlocked, ads out, and the usual pile of interface switches. Full write-up.
The alternative to BHTikTok, useful when one of the two stops working after an update — they rarely break at the same time.
Vibetok is the download-first option: less interface tinkering, more focus on getting media off the app and onto the phone.
YouTube
YouTube tweaks split cleanly by what annoys you: the ads, the interface, or the fact that audio stops when you lock the screen.
The most-downloaded YouTube tweak we carry, and the one people search for by name. A real OLED theme, ads gone, background playback on.
The classic, formerly YTLite: everything the premium tier sells plus sponsor-segment skipping, which the premium tier does not.
The music app rather than the video one, with the subscription features on. Covered next to two other options in music apps without a subscription.
X, Threads and Facebook
BHX does for X what BHTikTok does for TikTok — ads out, downloads in, and a settings panel for the parts of the timeline you would rather not see.
Not a feature tweak at all: a build that gets past the attestation error a lot of sideloaded X installs hit at the login screen. If that is your problem, here is what causes it.
Threads ships with no way to keep anything. ThreadSaver adds one.
Glow’s pitch is subtraction: the ads, the sponsored posts and the suggestions come out, and what is left is the feed from people you actually follow.
Messengers
The duplicate installs beside the original app rather than replacing it, so two numbers live on one phone — with Watusi’s privacy controls on top.
Same idea for the regular WhatsApp: freeze last seen, hide typing and read receipts, auto-reply, and a second account that does not touch the first.
Telegram is already generous, so this one is about the edges: sponsored messages off, anonymous forwarding, and privacy switches the official client does not expose.
Everything else
The ad-free Twitch client, which is also the one that keeps a stream playing in a corner while you do something else. More on it here.
The official app with the ads removed and the feed put back under your control.
SoundCloud without the interruptions and without the cap on how much you can hear.
How to install any of these
Three steps, no computer involved:
- Register your iPhone at builds.io — one UDID, done in the browser.
- Open the app page and tap GET. It installs like a normal download.
- If the first launch says “processing”, that is the one-time signing step, not an error. Most devices clear it within a day; some take up to three.
Two things worth knowing before you start. A tweak replaces the original app on the phone unless it is explicitly a duplicate build, so sign out of the App Store version first if you care about the session. And builds installed this way stay signed — they do not stop working after seven days the way a free-signer install does, which matters more for a tweak than for anything else, because re-signing every week is how most people give up on them.

If you want the wider shelf rather than tweaks specifically, start with the best apps to sideload on iPhone. And if a tweak of yours stopped opening after an update, sideloading errors, fixed covers the usual causes.
