Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies on iPhone in 2026 — the IPA

Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies was the mobile port of the mode people bought Black Ops for. Ideaworks Game Studio built it and Activision released it on iOS on December 1, 2011: Kino der Toten, the boarded-up cinema from the console game, plus fifty levels of Dead Ops Arcade, the top-down twin-stick mode with its end-game boss.

Then it disappeared. Activision pulled it from the App Store on December 13, 2021 and switched off its online servers on May 14, 2022. If it was never in your purchase history, the App Store route no longer exists — and Activision’s own note warns that even owners may lose it after an iOS update. On a current iPhone, the IPA is what is left.

What happened to the App Store version

Activision’s sunset notice is short and worth reading as three separate facts:

  • From December 13, 2021 the game could no longer be downloaded by new players, and in-game purchases were disabled.
  • From May 14, 2022 the online mode stopped working. Four-player co-op with voice chat, the headline feature at launch, is gone for everyone.
  • The local game keeps working for people who already had it — with the caveat, in Activision’s words, that “if you update your device software, the game may no longer be supported.”

That last line is the one that pushes people to the IPA. A phone that has been through a few iOS versions is exactly the phone that has lost its App Store copy.

What you still get to play

Everything in the offline game is intact. Kino der Toten runs as it always did on mobile: survive round after round, earn points for kills and repairs, spend them on doors, the Mystery Box and wall weapons, and push as far as the next wave lets you. Dead Ops Arcade is the change of pace — a top-down arena shooter with fifty levels and a boss at the end, and the mode that suits a touch screen best.

What you do not get is anything that needed Activision’s servers: online co-op, leaderboards and the in-game store are gone, modded or not.

What this build adds

The build in the catalog is version 1.3.5, the last release before the game was delisted, at about 390 MB. It ships with iGameGod — the iOSGods cheat overlay — enabled, which gives you three tools inside the game:

  • Cheat Engine — search for an in-game value, such as your points, and change it. More points means doors and the Mystery Box stop being a question of how many rounds you survived.
  • Speed Hack — speed the game up or slow it down, useful for grinding early rounds quickly or making a difficult wave manageable.
  • Touch Recorder — record a sequence of taps and replay it.

The overlay asks you to sign in with an iOSGods account the first time it opens. The account is free and it is the overlay’s own requirement, not ours. If you would rather play the game straight, leave the menu closed — the tools do nothing until you use them.

A 2021 game on a 2026 iPhone

Be realistic about what this is. The game has not been updated since 2021 and never will be, so it was built for older hardware and older iOS. It is a legacy game kept playable, not a remaster — the controls, resolution and menus are exactly what they were, and nothing new is coming.

The other practical point is keeping it installed. An IPA put on a phone with a free Apple ID stops opening after seven days, which is a poor fit for a game you might return to once a month. Installing from a maintained catalog keeps it signed — here is why the seven-day limit exists and how to avoid it.

You register your iPhone once with its UDID in the browser. The first time you add a device, Apple runs a one-time “processing” step: most devices are ready within a day, and some take up to three days. It happens once — every install after that is immediate. On first launch, sign in to iOSGods when the overlay asks.

More games that left the App Store or never made it there

Black Ops Zombies sits on a longer shelf — the hacked games list for iPhone covers more than twenty by genre. And if what you miss is the console era itself rather than its mobile ports, the emulators Apple does not carry are the other way back.
