What is Decibel X?

Decibel X: dB Sound Level Meter is published by SkyPaw Co., Limited and has been on the App Store since November 2011, which makes it one of the oldest apps in its category. It is listed under Utilities and Education. The developer says its measurements are pre-calibrated for Apple devices and compares well with real sound pressure level instruments, and it supports dBA and dBC weighting.

The measurement tools go well beyond a single number. Frequency weighting filters include ITU-R 468, A, B, C and Z, a dosimeter follows NIOSH and OSHA standards, and calibration offers linear and octave modes with saved profiles. FFT and bar graphs display the live spectrum, along with the dominant frequency, which helps with frequency analysis and musical tests.

Recordings can be kept as history records, then exported as a hi-res PNG graph or CSV text, with iCloud syncing them across Apple devices. Noise levels can be sent to the Health app, an Apple Watch app shows the reading on your wrist, and InstaDecibel puts a dB report over a photo for sharing. The app supports Live Activities, the Dynamic Island and both portrait and landscape layouts.
