Detailed Features of Each Equalizer Unit

EQP-1A is based on the classic Program Equalizer from the 1960s, highly regarded for its distinctive ability to both boost and cut the same frequencies simultaneously, creating a resonant shelving effect. This plug-in meticulously models the robust transformers and complex tube amplifier circuits found in the original analog hardware, resulting in a rich and dynamic sound.

Designed primarily for broadband equalization, the EQP-1A offers 4 low boost/cut frequencies, 3 high-cut frequencies, and 7 high-frequency boost points, complemented by a bandwidth control specifically for shaping the high boost curve. This extensive control set allows users to precisely tailor the tonal balance of their tracks.

MEQ-5 is inspired by the Classic Mid-Range Equalizer from the 1970s, featuring two bands for midrange boost and one for midrange cut. It excels in refining the "power region" of a mix—the critical frequency range between approximately 300 Hz and 5000 Hz where guitars and vocals typically dominate. The ear is most sensitive to this band, so subtle adjustments here can dramatically improve the clarity and impact of a mix.

The MEQ-5 enables intricate control with three independent sets of parameters, allowing simultaneous boosting on peak curves from 200 to 1000 Hz and 1.5 to 5 kHz, alongside a midrange dip ranging from 200 to 7000 Hz. This flexibility makes it possible to sculpt detailed midrange tones tailored to any production need.

HLF-3C is a faithful adaptation of a true passive high/low filter originally designed without input/output amplifiers and requiring no external power. Recognizing the natural signal loss inherent to the original hardware, this plug-in compensates with unity gain upon insertion, ensuring no insertion loss occurs until the cut filters are engaged. This design respects the vintage character of the HLF-3C while adapting it for modern digital workflows.

When combined, the EQP-1A, MEQ-5, and HLF-3C create a full-range vintage EQ chain capable of addressing any tonal shaping challenge with authenticity and deep character. This makes the Passive EQ Collection an indispensable tool for anyone aiming to infuse their mixes with classic analog warmth and precision.

Usage and Compatibility

To harness the power of Passive EQ Collection as a plug-in, users need an AUv3-compatible host app such as GarageBand, Auria, AUM, Cubasis, and others. Once installed, the plug-in will appear within the host app’s list of Audio Unit extensions for effect plug-ins, ready to be applied on individual tracks or buses.

Whether you are mixing, mastering, or sound designing, the Passive EQ Collection offers a straightforward and high-quality analog modeling experience right on your iOS device, enabling professional-level sound shaping anytime and anywhere.
