About PlantSnap

PlantSnap, shown in the App Store as PlantSnap - Plant Scanner, is a plant identification app from PlantSnap, Inc. It has been available since February 2019, is free to download, rated 4+ and sits in the Education category. The central trick is simple: you take a photo, and the app tells you what it is within seconds, with a description, taxonomy and a care guide.

The database covers upwards of 600,000 plants, spanning flowers, foliage, trees, succulents and cacti. That makes it useful for several situations: a houseplant you were given without a label, a flower noticed on a walk, or a tree in the park. If you already know the name, a search function lets you read facts about a species without taking a picture. Beyond identification, the app teaches growing and care, with gardening advice across thousands of species.

Discovery is social as well. The SnapMap and Explore sections show plants identified by other users around the world, and a community of nature lovers shares photos and gardening advice. You can save everything you identify to a personal library, a kind of collection that grows with each walk, and use augmented reality to inspect small details up close.

Price and requirements

The app is free in the App Store and requires iOS 15.5 or later. This IPA is the same app, with no modifications. The latest release note is the usual line about bug fixes and performance improvements. Identification works best with a sharp, well-lit photo of a leaf or a bloom, so take a moment to frame the plant before you tap the shutter.
