What is nPlayer Plus?

nPlayer Plus is a universal video player for iOS. It reads MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WMV and many other containers and codecs, so a file ripped years ago or copied from a camera plays the same way as a modern download. Sound is covered too, with official support for DTS, DTS HD and Dolby codecs such as AC3 and E-AC3, which many simple players skip.

The app does not require the video to sit on the phone. It can stream from remote devices over UPnP/DLNA, NFS, SMB/CIFS, SFTP, FTP and WebDAV, and from cloud services including Dropbox, Google Drive and OneDrive. A home server or a shared folder on a NAS therefore becomes a library you can open from the sofa, and the storage on the phone stays free.

Control is gesture based. You change the playback position, brightness, volume and subtitle timing by swiping, which suits one-handed use. When the picture should go to a bigger screen, the player can cast to Chromecast, send video through AirPlay or output to an external display over HDMI.
