Tandem

What’s unlocked in this Tandem mod

Tandem: language practice now includes the PRO subscription unlock, giving you access to paid features in the updated IPA for iPhone and iOS. Enjoy the premium experience for chatting, calling, and language learning without the subscription wall.

Languages stick when you use them with real people: Tandem connects you with native speakers, and you can download the Tandem IPA for iPhone as a tweak with the PRO subscription unlocked.

What is Tandem?

In the App Store the app is called Tandem: Practice Languages and is made by Tripod Technology GmbH, filed under Education and Travel. It has existed since February 2015. The community counts millions of members with all sorts of interests, so finding a partner who shares your topics is part of the pitch. The concept is a language exchange: you pair up with someone who speaks the language you want to learn, and they get the same from you. The store covers more than 300 languages, with Spanish, Japanese, Korean, German, Italian, Portuguese and Chinese among them, plus 12 sign languages including American Sign Language.

Setup is short. You choose the languages you want to learn, describe your goals and your ideal partner, then search the community for native speakers. From there you talk in whichever way suits you: one-to-one chats, voice notes, audio and video calls, or Parties, group audio spaces for practising with several people. Learning by doing is the stated idea, so conversation with a real partner is the product rather than lessons by the book, and you are not tied to a strict schedule. A built-in translation helps you write a message or understand an incoming one, and partners can correct each other's messages and comment on them to sort out grammar.

What the Tandem tweak unlocks

• Every PRO perk open from the first launch
• Paid features usable with no caps
• Paid options for chatting, calling and language learning without the subscription wall

Version and requirements

The App Store version is free, needs iOS 16.0 or later and has a 17+ age rating, because it connects you with other adults. Its latest update is a round of bug fixes for easier connections. The changelog for this build mentions only the PRO unlock, so the community side stays the same as in the original.

Say hello on builds.io: pick Tandem, fetch the IPA and it installs on your iPhone with one tap, with no PC.
