About MapleRead CX

The app comes from Maplepop LLC and is filed under Book in the App Store. It is one of three members of the MapleRead family. SE is the flagship with every feature, CE is SE without the PDF reader and the built-in Library Server, and CX is CE with some limitations, free to try. The developer says its apps carry no ads and are paid once rather than by recurring subscription.

The central idea is audio-visual reading. You can generate pseudo audiobooks from the text, choosing narrator voices in over 40 languages, and then follow the book in sync while listening, which the developer calls immersion reading and says helps comprehension of foreign-language books. Background listening works with the Lock Screen player and CarPlay.

Reading comfort gets attention too. Publisher styling can be modified, books can be shown in regular or large print, and several interface text sizes are offered. For study, you can look up words, translate sentences, search, highlight and write notes, collect vocabulary, and organise notes by priority. Hooks exist for user-defined dictionaries and translators.

On the library side, MapleRead keeps books organised automatically, repairs individual metadata, supports multiple sets and tags, and imports and exports in several ways, including good compatibility with Calibre. Fonts, themes, covers and library scenes are all user-defined.
