Weather on the Way answers a question ordinary weather apps skip: what will it be like where I am driving, and when? You can pick up the IPA of Weather on the Way for iPhone from builds.io and check conditions along the whole route instead of only at the start or the destination.

About Weather on the Way

The app is made by Piotr Knapczyk and is listed under Weather, with Travel as a second genre. It joins weather data to navigation, so each forecast is timed to the moment you expect to pass that stretch of road. A storm at kilometre 200 matters little if you will be through it hours before it arrives, and the timeline makes that visible.

You pick a departure time as far as seven days ahead and look for the clearest window, which is useful for long trips and for cyclists or hikers as well as drivers. Waypoints and stop durations keep the forecast accurate over multi-stop journeys, and GPX files can be imported when you already have a planned track. Sunrise and sunset are plotted on the route timeline so you can avoid driving straight into low sun.

Privacy is a stated focus: according to the developer, the app and the website collect no personal information and do not store your location or chosen route. There are no ads.

Plans and coverage

The App Store version is free for core route forecasting. A Pro tier, sold monthly, yearly (with a one-week trial) or as a one-time lifetime purchase, adds alternative route comparison, flexible departure planning and advanced weather layers. This IPA is the regular app without modifications.

Forecasts work in more than 70 countries, though severe weather alerts are limited to the US, Canada, EU members and Israel. The app needs iOS 15.0 or newer, has been available since July 2020, is rated 4+, and its latest update increased how often radar refreshes.
