What is 1998 Cam?

1998 Cam is a retro camera and editor from AAAI Studio LLC, filed in the App Store under Photo and Video with Graphics and Design as a second category. It has been around since early 2019. The app is built around one look: the soft, slightly muddy colours of nineties film, finished with a classic date and time stamp in the corner.

The filter pack is large, with more than a hundred looks grouped into film, vintage, retro, black and white, cinematic, portrait, landscape, mood and colour boost families. On top of those sit texture layers for film dust, grain and random light leaks, plus a pseudo three-dimensional effect. A live preview shows each look before you tap, so you can switch styles and intensity while framing the shot, for photos and for video alike.

Shooting is not the end of the job. Any picture can be reopened in the editor, where a filter or effect is added afterwards, and the usual controls cover brightness, contrast, saturation, exposure, warmth, tone, sharpness and grain. Crop, skew and straighten tools fix a crooked frame, and finished pictures leave the app without a watermark.
