OpenXcom is an open-source clone of the original UFO: Enemy Unknown (X-Com: UFO Defense in USA), licensed under the GPL and written in C++ / SDL. The goal of the project is to bring back the tried and true feel of the original with none of the issues. All the same graphics, sound and gameplay with a brand new codebase written from scratch. It was originally founded by SupSuper in February 2010, and has since grown into a small development team surrounded by a very supporting community.
Installation OpenXcom requires a vanilla copy of the original X-Com resources from either the original UFO: Enemy Unknown/XCOM:UFO Defence or the followup Terror from the Deep. This can be bought from either Steam of GOG (https://t.co/uZo2qBV87S). If you have the Steam version, you can find the X-Com game folder in “Steam\steamapps\common\xcom ufo defense\XCOM”. Do not use modded versions (eg. XcomUtil) as they may cause bugs and crashes. To install the game files, copy the game subfolders (GEODATA, GEOGRAPH, MAPS, ROUTES, SOUND, TERRAIN, UFOGRAPH, UFOINTRO, UNITS & and save folders, yes you can import old DOS game saves) to a folder named UFO or TFTD and then copy these folers to the application using iTunes file sharing. Credits for the iOS version of the game go to sfalexrog, check out his other projects here https://t.co/BvAuFmdPtt.
