About (Not Boring) Weather

The app is made by Not Boring Software LLC and listed in the Weather category of the App Store. It styles itself !Weather and describes a design inspired by 3D video games: rain, thunder and wind move across the screen as you check the forecast. The store page mentions an Apple Design Award and coverage from outlets and reviewers, and the app has been available since early 2021.

Data comes from a mix of providers. Four sources feed the forecasts, namely Accuweather, Foreca, Apple's own weather service and the US National Weather Service, and the aim is the most local reading available. Minute forecasts tell you when a downpour starts and when the sky clears. Beyond temperature you get cloud cover, visibility, wind direction, rainfall and humidity, plus UV, air quality and pollen readings for the next hours or days.

Other touches include severe weather alerts for storms, heat waves, floods, hurricanes and blizzards, moon phases with illumination, widgets for the home and lock screens, collectible app icons and skins that restyle the whole app, and a small game called Cloudburst for passing the time.
