About Only One

Only One is an arena sword game by the developer Ernest Szoka. It first appeared in the App Store in February 2014, is free to download and carries a 12+ rating. The stage is a single pillar floating in the sky, and the goal is to survive as long as you can against enemies that rush you from every side. The press quoted on the store page, TouchArcade and PocketGamer, praised its depth and pacing.

Combat is built on physics. You parry attacks, push enemies and aim to knock them off the edge, which counts as an instant kill and earns extra points. The enemy lineup ranges from archers and slimes to bats, berserkers, loot gnomes, wizards and plain swordsmen, and fireballs can be turned around against casters. Defeated enemies drop loot, health pickups keep you alive and shields block hits.

Progression comes from abilities. There are six active skills, push, freeze, dart, whirlwind, bubble and inferno, plus eight passive ones such as last stand, magnet, regen and backstab. Three modes cover different appetites: Quest runs through 100 levels with a boss every tenth stage, Endless throws waves until you fall, and Trials set special challenges where you earn stars. The visuals are retro pixel art with Game Center leaderboards, full offline play, gamepad support and a choice between floating and fixed virtual joysticks.

Version and requirements

The changelog of this IPA describes a single effect: free IAP. The game requires iOS 15.0 or later. Recent official notes mention a fix for resurrection not showing abilities, rebalanced trial goals, late-game levels and some bosses, and a corrected Golden Soldiers trial that now asks for 42 soldiers.
